Making things easier for people is my sustenance.

I believe that there are endless opportunities for improvements in the way we move through and experience the world, be it through improvements to digital or analog spaces. It thrills me that I get to work in a field that allows me to help make people's lives easier every-single-darn-day.

In my previous career as a public servant and dispatcher for BC Wildfire, I got a lot of feedback from my colleagues saying I was the friendliest person on our team. I didn’t consider myself to be doing anything above-and-beyond, I just found the work more personally gratifying when I was able to form connections with people.

I spent 20 years working public-facing jobs, and something that kept me in those roles was that there is something magical about making the DIFFICULT into the SIMPLE. Those moments feed my soul which is why the discovery of User Experience Design was a turning point for me in terms of my professional pursuits. Imagine my shock and elation to find that there is a whole field of work focused on doing what my soul craves!

Now as I enter the field of UX Design I’m put in the unique position of having a long work history of customer service and management roles plus the enthusiasm of entering a new field. Did I mention I’m excited?

My Values

Social Justice

Social justice is justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within our society. To me this means being anti-rascist, pro-feminist, and supporting the struggles of all oppressed people in our society.

Community = Strength

Communities are any of the places we spend our time with other people. Engaging in pro-social activities creates bonds and alleviates the painful burden of the human condition, making us more resilient to challenges.

Social Location

I believe in stating my social location to varying degrees depending on the level of trust I have in a particular party. Thought leaders, managers, moderators, all benefit from doing this publicly.

Non-Violent Communication

This is an approach to communication that follows through on the principles of non-violence designed to increase empathy and quality of life of those who utilize it. It is like human-centered design but for communication.

Mutual Aid

Tied in with ideas of altruism, cooperation, anarchism, teamwork and community, mutual aid to me means individuals can come together and form strong cohesive wholes, filling in one-anothers gaps of experience and skill. It’s a beautiful phenomenon.
